I recently received a call from the National Republical Senatorial Campaign Committee. I used to be a contributor and they were calling to solicit donations. I told the guy calling that I would not be contributing at this time. The reason that I gave for my change in attitude was that the Republicans had squandered an historic opportunity to alter the course of this great nation. Instead of demonstrating leadership and making the difficult choices, they sat back and allowed the Democrats to set the agenda. Now the Repulicans are once again a minority party. Subsequently, I found this over the weekend from one of the greatest conservative minds of today. I think that he is dead on with this one:

A few issues I have with the administration on security issues. Most Democrats are even worse, but, I expect all of this and then some from them. Some things I don't know if this is just how the administration/President think or if this is how they really believe things should be.
Failure to stand up to radical environmentalists by not drilling in ANWR, caving into the man-made global warming hysteria, etc. CHECK. Now we're going to be importing more food so we can burn corn in our gas tanks. In light of living in a world that can't stand the US, would we rather be importing stuff we put in our gas tanks or our stomachs? And at the same time we are buying the oil we do use from regimes that only tolerate us because they need us (for now) to sell oil to. Yeah, this makes PERFECT sense to me. How are those nuclear plants coming by the way?
Failure to accurately identify the true nature of the threat. CHECK. This should no more be a "war on terror" than WWII was a war on surprise attacks. Political Correctness run amok is the only explanation for this mind boggling lack of understanding of the problem. I understand that in trying to enlist allies in the rest of the world the President can't totally fire from both barrels. However, if he bent over backward any farther to try and not offend some people he could touch his toes - the opposite way.
Failure to stand up for and make the case for effective interrogation techniques. CHECK Time outs barely work on a toddler. Don’t think a terrorist is going to be broken up by it either. And if we aren't going to do what needs to be done, for crying out loud lets NOT stop rendering these murders to countries that will. If we aren't supposed to judge other countries and look down on them, why are we supposed to judge them and look down on them for THAT?
Failure to secure the borders. DOUBLE CHECK. Not only has the administration not tried to fix it, they have tried to shoot even more holes in it with the recently (and thankfully) defeated "immigration" legislation. From the proseuction of the border agents for shooting a repeat offender drug dealer to stubborness in building a REAL, PHYSICAL wall, the administration position here is just baffling. We can spend TRILLIONS of dollars on entitlement programs but all of a sudden people in Washingotn are crying about how much it would cost to enforce the border and immigratioin laws? Come on in terrorists…the waters warm. And if we do by chance catch you, don't worry. We are far more concerned about your supposed "rights" than trying to stop you form mudering our children.
Bottom line: There are statues, monuments, and holidays honoring the men who were willing to do what needed to be done to protect and preserve this country in generations past. I don't see those people today and when those in charge do try a bit, they do not possess the political savvy to overcome the people in this country who do not see what needs to be done. In fairness to the President, I don't know how much better Washington, Lincoln, our Roosevelt would have been either. While they did have their detractors, they had to face nothing like the President does in the likes of the modern day kook fringe of the democratic party. Which sadly, commands a lot of control.
