Frivolous Lawsuits

In an effort to protect the rights of people to file frivolous lawsuits, Nebraska State Senator Ernie Chambers has decided to file the most frivolous of lawsuits against God. In his claim, the Honorable Senator Chambers taunts, blasphemes and even goes so far as to say "Come out come out wherever you are." If his intention is to be frivolous, he certainly is accomplishing his goal. However, I wonder if he knows the third one about vain use of the Divine Name. I can only wonder about the response if the Defendant were to appear at the hearing.

It is a good thing that the Honorable Senator is in a country whose legal system is based upon Judeo-Christian tradition rather than an Islamic one where "agents" of the defendant would act upon behalf of the defendant and behead the plaintiff. It is also interesting to note the political affiliation of the Honorable Senator Ernie Chambers (D) from Nebraska.

Many people may get a chuckle or two at the expense of the Honorable Senator. Yet, I dare say I know who will be getting the last laugh. The only question in my mind is will it be sooner or later?

Certainly not everyone in the Republican party is a Christian or for that matter, even believe in any kind of deity at all. However, a large majority of the Right are very respectful of people's religious beliefs. The few that do look down on religious people at least have the decency to refrain from airing those feelings publicly.

Democrats and the Left, not so much.

This lawsuit is actually minor compared to some of thing things you read on the Democratic Underground and the DailyKos. I know there are many sincere Christians who consider themselves liberals and Democrats. I am at a loss to understand how they reconcile affiliating themselves with people in a party that look at their religious beliefs with scorn and contempt. Further, I don't know how it doesn't cause them to really reconsider their political beliefs when their politics are in sync with people who mock and scorn their religious beliefs.

Disclaimers: This is not to say that God is a Republican, that everyone has to agree on everything or that liberals aren't Christians. But for crying out loud, stop and think about it this way: If the cross is foolishness to the perishing, doesn't that make you as a Christian stop and question the validity of other things being supported by those same people the Bible says are fools? Why would you want to agree with a fool?
