Truly Random Ramblings

I have been hard at work writing papers for a graduate course. Hence my lack of new material for the blog. However, I was reading the news this evening and I was going to take a shot at the shoddy business practices of an ever increasing number of Chinese companies. The latest one involves toy beads that are coated with a chemical that turns into GHB (date rape drug) if ingested. Interstingly enough, this is a toy company not a pharmaceutical company. Although, maybe they share production facilities. I for one would not wish to trust my life or that of anyone that I cared for to that type of quality. I wonder what will they think of next. By the way, I also read that they intend to have a lunar mission by 2010.

The article that made me all warm and fuzzy right before I settle in to my nice warm bed was one detailing how my tax dollars are being used for good. The USS Lake Erie fired two interceptor missiles and score two kills on two short range ballistic missiles at the same time. Now that is a return on investment!
The top picture of one of the targets launching. Below is the launch of the interceptor.
Everyone laughed at Ronald Reagan when he proposed the crazy idea of a bullet hitting a bullet. Thank you Ron!

Ballistic Missile Defense has so many benefits beyond the obvious one of the U.S. being able to keep some crazy commies from smoking our collective 6.

Internationally: Putin has likened this to the Cuban missile crisis. However, If I recall correctly, those missiles were OFFENSIVE weapons. The missiles for BMD are DEFENSIVE weapons. Granted, rendering his offensive capabilities less effective while at the same time maintaining ours, does shift the balance of power. But I'd love to see a diplomat ask him if he was intending to use those weapons to attack us or anybody else. Putin's true colors are showing now more than ever.

Domestically: This is were the fringe benefits are really sweet. FINALLY we get to hear socialists (AKA most democrats) complain about a program that costs too much. FINALLY we get to hear these guys talk about RESULTS of a government program. FINALLY we get a program they actually want to CUT. Because usually there is no such program that costs too much (it's for the children don't you know), intentions are far more important than results (unless the "results" are actually a greater dependency on Big Govt), and no program is ever truly cut (reduction in the rate of proposed increase does not a cut make).

What does this show us about most democrats ("most" is necessary for the Joe Leiberman disclaimer, and the base of his party wanted to dump him. The GOP actually carried him in the general)? It shows us they want to cut a program that can actually be tied to a mandate in the Constitution, that costs relatively little, and that actually works.

The INTENTION is to protect the US from being vaporized in a nuke attack. It WORKS. Why would any politician oppose that?
